Defending Discrimination

Gays say that discrimination against gays hurts gay people for something they can't control.

It is true that gay's feelings are hurt by discrimination. But racists feelings are also hurt when they are discriminated against if they don't keep their racist attitudes and lifestyle private.

Racists are denied jobs, housing, and education opportunities if they reveal and express their racial limitations. If a racist expresses their feelings, they are accused of creating a hostile environment and harassing people of different races. The racist is rejected and denied opportunities based on their racism.

And it is appropriate, to a certain degree, that racists should be discriminated against, even if they can't control how they feel. Racism is a personal limitation that deprives the individual of the natural and positive experience of being with people different from themselves. It is right and good to discourage people from limiting their human experiences based on a fear of things that are different from themselves.

Rejecting someone because their race or sexual anatomy is different from ones own is a personal limitation that deprives an individual of meaningful and important experiences.

In the area of general human relations, rejecting someone because they have a different skin color or racial features from ones own, can deprive that person of the friendship and love and knowledge and potential economic benefits from knowing the people they are rejecting.

In the area of sexual relations, rejecting someone because their sexual anatomy is different from ones own, will deprive that person of a mutually pleasurable procreative relationship. So it is appropriate for a society to have laws that discourage the mental limitation of racism and homosexuality.

Hang on. Assuming you are male, does a lesbian's turning you down really hurt you? Everybody gets turned down. That's life. Your eyes are too close together, you are too tall, too short, for whatever reason, you don't float somebody's boat. You just move on!
